Killington

The Eastward team got a chance to catch up with Kit in Vermont just around mile 500. The first few hundred miles southbound are notoriously some of the toughest terrain on the trail and include: Mt. Katahdin, the 100 Mile Wilderness, and the White Mountains. Kit did not seem very fazed about this section that north-bounders spend 1500 miles dreading. Eastward fueled Kit back up with some trail food, candy, a hot pizza, and of course, a fresh pair of hiking socks.

Trail Magic

Trail magic can be anything from snacks, warm meals, cold soda, beer or even a ride to town when you reach the trailhead. "Trail angels" often live nearby and enjoy surprising hikers with goods they typically are not carrying in their pack. Kit has had plenty of experiences with trail magic and said it's something that doesn't get old.

“Hiking into Hanover, NH, we found a case of warm cheap beer on the trail and all sat down and drank one after hiking just a few miles that morning, figuring you can't turn down trail magic when it gets presented to you. The best way to describe it is unexpected kindness from people you don't actually know."
